Work out a rough value yourself
This is the same arithmetic that goes on your written slip. Enter your numbers and today's 24K rate from any public rate board. For pledged gold, add your loan payoff to see the money that comes to you.
Gold rates change through the day. The figure that counts is the one on your written slip after weighing and testing.
The value is below the loan payoff, so nothing would be left to pay you.
Any fee or handling charge is listed on your written slip and shown to you before you agree. Nothing is bought, melted or kept until you say yes.
How this calculator works
The calculator uses the same arithmetic that goes on your written ClearKarat slip. It takes your gross weight, removes the weight of stones or dirt, applies the purity of your gold, and multiplies by the 24K gold rate per gram that you enter. If your gold is pledged, it also subtracts your loan payoff so you can see the money that would come to you.
Purity and what it means
| Karat | Gold content | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 99.9% (999) | Coins, bars, bullion |
| 22K | 91.6% (916) | Most Indian jewellery |
| 18K | 75.0% (750) | Studded and designer jewellery |
| 14K | 58.5% (585) | Light and fashion jewellery |
Why the number is an estimate
Your real figure depends on the weighed net weight, the tested purity and the rate fixed in front of you when your gold is weighed. Gold rates change through the day. Use the estimate to prepare, then confirm with a written slip. For a deeper explanation, read how old gold is valued.
Questions
Straight answers
How does ClearKarat value my gold?
We weigh your gold on a scale whose display faces you, take out the weight of any stones, lac or dirt, test the purity while you watch, and multiply the net weight by the purity and the day's gold rate. Each of those numbers goes on its own line of a written slip before you decide anything.
Why are stones and dirt weighed out?
Stones, lac, enamel and dirt have weight but are not gold, so they cannot be paid for as gold. Removing them gives the net weight, which is the weight your price is based on. The deduction appears as its own line on the slip so you can see exactly what was taken out.
Does the gold rate change during the day?
Yes, gold rates move through the day. The rate that counts is the one on your written slip, which is the rate used when your gold is weighed and tested in front of you. Ask us which rate is being used and where it comes from.
